IF YOU ARE A WRITER WITH A BOOK TO SELL

Celebration Printing Offer Special

We have three ways to help you be heard:

There are some basic things to consider, before sending a manuscript to us. LadybugBooks.com is unusual in some ways:

Ladybug is a "woman-owned business in the service of women"— That means that our books do not limit their perspective to the mainstream. In fact, their only limitation is your imagination. Male readers, and writers, are welcome.

Ladybug is a socially conscious company. All of our traditionally published books contain a charitable element, from a combination of royalties and profits. If that doesn't appeal to you, another publisher is probably a better idea. We like people who care that this is being done and understand and approve it.

A donation of 15% is made from each book's net income. This is taken before the author's royalty. We expect each author to select her own charity.

Ladybug is always evolving — and now we are part of NewVoices, Inc. with the additional imprint (added to LadybugPress, Ladybug Productions, Signature, CDs and Partners in Publishing) of New Voices! We are not able to pay writers an advance, but our royalty structure is designed to help offset this.

Ladybug is a business. We are thrilled to give talented people a break and expect to become friends with many of the writers with whom we work, because we do work closely with the author, but this is not an act of friendship. If we contract for your book it is because we think it has selling potential. If we don't, it doesn't mean that we are any less impressed with you as a talent.

Information on other publications from Ladybugbooks.com

The LadybugPress and New Voices imprints are our print books and though the majority of these are, and will continue to be, non-fiction we are interested in seeing unusual ideas.

LadybugBooks.com has always been interested in using advances in information technology to help women be heard, produced as audio books, mixed media (print and audio both in a CD format) and text and images on CD. These are part of our Signature CD and Ladybug productions imprint. And we are always adding new ideas to this capability.

ANOTHER NOTE: LadybugPress is a publishing company. We are not printers. Our investment in a book is an investment in the whole, so, though we welcome input from authors on formatting, art, and book covers, we do not accept books with the expectation that the author's ideas on these will be final. Book design is an art, a part of the publisher's art, so please respect those who do this important work, which can often make the difference between a successful book and one that is not.

NONFICTION

Please consider LadybugPress if you have a manuscript in the non-fiction category that fits the following requirements:

  • We are looking for books to serve the needs of women. Categories of special interest right now include:
    • Issues facing younger women today
    • Sports, especially women's professional sports
    • Women's history from a fresh angle
    • New families: Modern family issues and/or creative living styles
    • If you have unusual or specialized information of use or interest to women and the ability to share it in a clear and concise way, we want to hear from you! (No How-To books, please.)
    • We are also interested in true accounts of women's lives to add to our "Extraordinary Women" series. These will include biographies of women of achievement and interviews with women who are making a difference in the world, their communities, or women's lives. (Please don't send first-person stories unless they include a variety of perspectives and some expertise on the issues the experiences address.)

Before submitting a manuscript, send an email or short query letter to:

Georgia@ladybugbooks.com
or:
LadybugPress
Attn: Georgia Jones
16964 Columbia River Drive
Sonora, CA 95370-9111

Manuscripts should be between 75 and 300 pages in length, typewritten is OK for submission but we will need your book in electronic form if it is accepted for publication. Photographs, illustrations, or graphs you will be furnishing should be included with the manuscript or fully described in a cover letter. No manuscript should be sent unless a query has resulted in a request to see the manuscript. A SASE should accompany materials you want returned. Any materials not accompanied by a SASE will be destroyed after they have been reviewed.

All manuscripts will be given careful consideration. Please remember that any publisher, including LadybugPress, is only considering your manuscript in the context of their publishing needs. Unfortunately, we are not able to comment on materials we do not accept.

Magazine: LadybugFlights   LadybugFlights

Radio: LadybugLive   LadybugLive

(and... TeenTalkNetwork, and MooseMeals)

Inclusion in these online projects is open to writers. LadybugFlights:

It is our intent to publish one short fiction or feature article and one poem per issue, though this combination will vary according to the material we receive and may be replaced by special issues with a focus on news, fiction, or poetry — Special issues will be announced well in advance so submissions can be prepared in a timely way.

Short-short stories, up to 1,000 words, and poetry under 40 lines can be submitted according to the same process as news articles (below). Longer works require special consideration so please send a proposal first. Longer works may be published up to three months after acceptance.

News items are provided from our regular contributors and from any of you who have a newsworthy item to pass on. News articles of 100-400 words will be published with a byline or you can send facts and sources and we will write it. Longer, feature, articles (1,000 to 1,500 words average) and columns will be considered on an individual basis.

We want news from all over the world and are counting on you to help us find it! (Because the language of this publication is English, all materials must be in English.)

Unfortunately, we are not able to compensate writers who contribute here.

    SPECIAL CATEGORIES:

Exceptional Women is a regular series of short articles, approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words about women of accomplishment. These can, certainly, include the famous and the should-have-been famous women of the past and the present, but it can also include stories of exceptional women who are not likely to be recognized by history because their unique contributions did not involve large numbers or dramatic events. We look to you to tell us about the women you admire.

    AFFILIATE PROGRAM:

We know there are a lot of good women's businesses, ezines, and individual sites out there and if you are from one of those we are happy to help you be seen. Send us material we use and we will credit your site by putting a link from the information so our readers can find out more about you.

    To submit work to LadybugFlights:

Send short pieces in the body of an email message, being sure to state the source of facts and quotes you may be including. Longer works, special categories, and proposals, can be sent in the body of an email message or as an attachment saved in rtf format.

Deadlines for each month's publication are the last Wednesday of the month before, unless it is a special issue and another deadline has been announced.

Send an email with either completed work or a summary of the information or feature article you have in mind to:

    LadybugLive, radio on demand online

We need correspondents and readers. The process is quite simple: submissions are by email. If accepted, a reader calls, either our local or our toll free number, as directed in the acceptance email, to record. What will you be recording?

We are looking for: readings of original creative work, comment and commentary, and ideas for regularly appearing programming that can be done within this format. We are not able, as yet, to do live call in shows, but shows that require listener (delayed) response are OK. All of this, of course, within the same guidelines as everything we do: Of interest to women (no particular restrictions). This format might also be ideal for some of those traditional topics, such as clothing and makeup, with a fresh "twist."

Unfortunately, we are not yet able to compensate writers who contribute here, but it is our hope to be able to offer modest compensation soon.

        Send ideas and proposals to:
